"To experience PEACE does not mean that your life is always blissful. It means that you are capable of tapping into a blissful state of mind amidst the normal chaos of a hectic life" Jill Bolte Taylor
This April we introduce the ‘cumulative stress theory’ and effective tools on how to manage your health. It can best be understood by the simple analogy of a bucket of water, imagine your health and energy are the bucket of water. Your bucket fills with healthy food, sleep, rest, meditation, yoga and the things you enjoy most. Then there are forces that drain your bucket; unhappy work environment, day-to-day stress and busyness, relationship issues, extreme exercise. Some level of stress in our lives is ok for most, it helps keep us productive, but it is important to have continual flow into your bucket and know your limits. Cumulative stress can lead to serious issues such as anxiety, depression and relationship breakdowns. It is subtle and happens slowly over time until a point where you may not realise you have slipped into a stress coma and accept this state as a way of life. Evaluate frequently if your ‘bucket is empty’ or you are showing signs of stress such as immune deficiency, digestive or skin conditions, weight gain or loss, memory loss, difficulty making decisions.
It is true that for a while we can handle the load, an extra workout to our week, more hours at the office, less sleep, limited rest and eventually cumulatively the stress builds until there is a crack and the bucket is no longer as effective as it was. The crack will continue to develop and so on, however the crack needs to be acknowledged and mended and this is NOT NEGOTIABLE, allow yourself recovery and focus on filling up your bucket.
Sometimes it’s not possible to eliminate the stressor so here it is most important to eat healthy and include weekly massage, meditation, and yoga to assist your mind and body coping with the stress. Make an appointment with a health professional to support you toward wellness, make your health a priority.
