Dr Clive’s knowledge on rehabilitation is a very precise, directed approach that trains the brain to enhance neuromuscular function, better stabilisation and ideal alignment. Based on the scientific principles of developmental Kinesiology, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) is increasingly becoming the most widely accepted sports rehabilitation in the world today. DNS helps to retrain motor patterns that influence stability, mobility, balance and co-ordination. To optimise the control and efficiency of every movement pattern, you must first learn the co-ordinated activity of segmental postural alignment, a key element that helps establish proper stabilisation.
To help minimise mechanical stress on the ligaments, cartilages, capsules and joint surfaces of the body, it is crucial for quality muscle co-ordination to take place. Stabilisation strategies always include an upright spine, the chest being positioned over the pelvis, the diaphragm in the horizontal position to activate proper breathing mechanics and pelvis in the neutral position. If any of these parameters are not met, compensatory movement patterns become apparent, resulting in dysfunctional movements, progressive weakness, strain, injury and suboptimal performance.
Careful analysis in the DNS evaluation method consists of identification of the weakest link through a series of functional tests. If one motor pattern is found not to be working effectively, other muscles over compensate to create an inefficient and often weak motor pattern. The goal is to identify the weak functional chain and prescribe a series of active exercises after the Chiropractic therapy session. These exercises help to restore optimal breathing dynamics, central alignment of all joints and increase core stabilisation with every movement pattern.
DNS acts directly on the central nervous system improving spinal stabilisation and motor control. Slow repetition of these exercises that start from the lying position to the advanced kneeling and standing positions help retrain the brain to effectively promote correct functional movement patterns. This is the truest form of injury prevention in rehabilitation, optimising the efficiency of all human motion.
